What is stress? - Stress Reduction
| What is stress?Well, letīs take a look. "Stress" can cover many different situations. It can arise as an uneasy feeling, a nervous tension, making the brain vibrate and the hands tremble. The origin of this can be a drainage of nervous energy due to, for example, overwork, or generally overdoing anything. After long hours of driving coordination can become difficult and the person must stop and relax for a while. We can say that that type of stress is "normal" in that is a result of an agression on the nervous system and usually simply requires some rest, even though there is a cumulative "jet lag" effect that can last for some time. BUT there is another type of stress and that arises from insecurity, indecision, a general surplus of nervous tension as to our actions or consequences of our actions. Our "self" is unsure about its footing, like walking on ice and being afraid of suddenly landing on our backs. This is the stress that can lead to drinking and/or chain smoking, overeating, even agressive reactions when a crisis point is reached. |
