It certainly helped them, no doubt! If interested check out the Dalai Lamaīs books. They are all best sellers because his teachings are very simple and direct. He doesnīt tell us to do anything, itīs all a question of how we view the world. If we change that, all the misery goes away. Oh, by the way, he doesnīt want to convert anybody to his faith.
