    Mental freedom

Thank author of this post/commentI'm a 60 yrs old female. I'm sick and tired of the toxic people in my family. There are a lot of gossips, backstabbing, and resentment that have been accumulated for more than 60 yrs. History continue repeating itself and there is no attempt to compromise and move forward. Blaming and reliving the past is a way of life. I don't want to continue the rest of my life in that type of environment. Everybody suffers from depression and/or anxiety. It's a vicious cycle that I want to escape and start over far away from my family. Is it too late to start over? Am I selfish? What steps should I take to free myself from my family?

    Thanks for your input.

Thank author of this post/commentHi Sepia! Thanks for visiting the forums.

There are many different types of families out there, with many issues and people in them. You are not alone, and there is never the "perfect" family. "Perfect" is simply a descriptive word, and normally isn't the case. However, close to perfect, is very possible, and can be easily met.

It's never to late to start over if you get off on the wrong road in life. At this point, it sounds to me like you are a little upset about the entire situation with your family (the specific issues like backstabbing, gossip and resentment).

You are not selfish, and there are things you, and even others in your family can do to pull together and become stronger. You however, recognizing that this is a vicious cycle and would like to interupt it, have already made a HUGE step and descision into correcting the cycle and negative emotions.

However, I regret to inform you that there is no "Family Fix in a Box" that you can go out and buy, that knows the issues and exactly how to fix them. Again, every family is different.

I think you would best benefit from some coaching and mentoring, Sepia. I am a certified EFT practitioner, life coach and mentor. I do not charge for my service, and there is no set time limit for the first point of contact. I'd love to work with you.

Just drop me an e-mail if you'd like at yourwebcoach@yahoo.com and we'll talk about this some more.

Thank author of this post/commentHi Sepia, I also have that kind of environment in the house so I rented an apartment to go away from that "hell". I have read from the Fabulous Self-Esteem e-book by Amy Twain that our environment and experiences affects our self-esteem. It's not being selfish. You are only making a decision for you life and that kind of environment will give you low self-esteem and a miserable life. You have your own life. You don't have to please them since they are also not trying to please you. Just do what you want to be happy.
