What is hypnotism?

One hears this word quite often, scenes of hypotism appear in movies, with the famous dangling watch, but many don´t know exactly what it is.

I have heard about the power of concentration, the fact that the brain can act like a lazer beam and focus on things with great energy.

Is this where hypnotism lies? What I did not know, or understand, is that concentration can separate us from reality and build a new and separate reality.

Perhaps it is all a farce.

I saw a spectacle once in which a hypnotist told a guy to put his hand agaist a wall and he would not be able to detach it.

The boy did and he struggled to get his hand back, and he couldn´t.

As far as the audience was concerned it was real.

Real?
