Diagnosed Bipolar 2 Dating someone who is Bipolar 1

Thank author of this post/commentCan two people who have the same illness have a relationship. I was recently diagnosed with Bipolar 2 which is a lower grade of Bipolar 1. With bipolar 2 you experience all that bipolar 1 does just to a smaller degree. My partner is bipolar 1 and has been hospitalized at least twice. I have never been hospitalized and can function fairly well by myself; but, i have had a very tough couples of years. My second husband was diagnosed with alzheimers and died shortly after he was diagnosed (i think this is what brought my episode on.

I then started seeing the one with bipolar 1 and it is not easy for either of us. He has had 3 failed marriages and says he doesn't trust women but he let me in his life. I have had one failed marriage and one failed abusive relationship and a husband who died.

Is it worth even trying?? Im currently in therapy and on lamictal. He doesn't take medication and doesn't see himself as bipolar.

I love this man and have been inlove with him for almost 10 years thru the ups and downs and they have been alot of the ups and downs.

I just wanted to know is there anymore couples out there that both have bipolar of some degree?

and how did you make it work?

Thank author of this post/commentI FEEL FOR YOU HUGELY.I AM BIPOLAR 2 AND MY BOYFRIEND BIPOLAR 1.WE HAVE NEVER LIVED TOGETHER, NOT PROPERLY ANYWAY, ITS NOT A POSSIBILITY, IF WE ARE TOGETHER FOR A WEEK OR SO WE GET TOO CLOSE AND HE WILL GO HOME AND COMPLETELY IGNORE ME, TAKE ILLEGAL DRUGS, DRINK AND SEND THE MOST DISGUSTINGLY ABUSIVE TEXTS. EVERYTIME IT HAPPENS (ABOUT TWICE A MONTH) I PROMISE MYSELF IT WILL BE THE LAST TIME, IT NEVER IS THOUGH. I DONT KNOW IF ITS BECAUSE I LOVE HIM OR AM OBSESSED WITH HIM.YOU SEE HE IS THE ONLY PERSON I CAN RELATE TOO MENTALLY, ALTHOUGH IM NOT AS BAD AS HIM.IT CAN ONLY WORK IF YOU ARE ABLE TO DO THE PERMANENT ROLLER COASTER RIDE OF EMOTIONS.I FEEL SUICIDAL THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME.MY HOPE IS THAT ONE DAY I WILL STAY AWAY.YOU NEED THE HUGEST AMOUNT OF SELF ESTEEM AND SELF CONFIDENCE TO MAKE IT WORK.EVEN THEN HE WILL PROB TAKE THAT FROM YOU, IF YOU LET HIM.IF YOU CAN LIVE WITHOUT HIM, PLEASE TRY, LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET ON, I WISH YOU ALL THE LUCK IN THE WORLD.IVE TWO DIVORCES BEHIND ME (1 BECAUSE OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND CONTINUAL ADULTERY) AND TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU EVEN THAT WAS A WALK IN THE PARK COMPARED TO THIS.HAVING SAID ALL THAT, YOU ARE NOT ME, IF HE IS MEDICATED YOU MAY BE FINE.MINE REFUSES HELP OF ANY SORT.IM LOOKING DOWN A DARK ABYSS OF NOTHINGNESS, I.E. MY FUTURE, AND I HAVENT THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THAT.I REALLY HOPE YOU HAVE THE COURAGE AND STRNGTH REQUIRED.LOVE TO YOU.XXX

Thank author of this post/commentI'm sort of in the same boat my boyfriend has bipolar 1 but when I tell him he needs to be on medication he says I'll get help but he doesn't even make an attempt to SEE a doctor.

At times he could be so sweet, but thats only when were together.

The problem is, he accuses me of doing something wrong whenever I'm not with him, and even if he's on the phone with me he still thinks I have a guy here or I'm talking to someone else online. I don't do anything wrong.

I can't even go out with my friends or family without him thinking there's another guy there. I don't even speak to guys, but then it's ok for him to keep in touch with his ex who cheated on him several times and treated him like garbage. And now it seems that he's doing to me what she did to him. I'm not so sure about the cheating but now with him talking to females it makes me nervous, but I'm not allowed to speak to guys cause he'd think I was cheating.

He always makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong and I constantly cry because I feel like I can't do anything to satisfy him. He won't trust me for anything and he says he never will.

I'm lost, I don't know what to do anymore.

My sister has Bipolar 1 and I try my hardest to be understanding to her but it is very hard. Do you have any clues or hints on how I could be a better sister to her? She also just became pregnant, and i'm very happy for her but will that have a huge effect on the baby? I guess i'm just worried about her. Good luck on your relationships, if you have any ideas let me know.

Everyone has the right to "love" and "be loved" right? Even if you two have bipolar disorder it doesn't cripple your hearts either. "It takes one to know one." a popular quotation say and it completely applies to you, you two have failed relationships plus the fact that you have the same disorder yet varying in degree, so you two have a better chance of staying together and hopefully making it together as a couple.... and ultimately, the answer you seek already came from your mouth that you love each other. Now just maintain that loving feeling to last and you'll have little problem (I would like to say no problem but that is the reality of having a relationship with somebody).

Can the baby be bipolar because of the mom?

#6

Racheal

Why must you type in all CAPS? Its freaking annoying.

"Can the baby be bipolar because of the mom?"

- What? I strongly believe you really need to improve your vocabulary and English skill my dear. Well, if I read between those sentence I can come up with a question like:

Can the baby inherit the bipolar disorder of his/her mom?

- The answer could be yes or no. Some disorders like schizophrenia is a kind of brain abnormality or disorder which can be inherited by the next generation, but not necessarily the immediate child. Sometimes symptoms or the actual disorder appears two to three generations ahead. Bipolar disorder can be inherited.

Marky, your an idiot. There was nothing wrong with the way Steph asked the question. Obviously you understood it just well.

What is the difference between Bipolar 1 and Bipolar 2?

#10

Lynn

I also would like to know what the difference is between bipolar 1 and bipolar 2? i did not even know there were 2 different kinds of bipolar disorder.

Tim

I do not know that there are two kinds of bipolar disorders. But anyway, I must say that it is very difficult to have a relationship with a bipolar. I have experience that before and I surely had a hard time dealing with him. But you know what I realized? For you to love somebody is to love his ups and downs. So despite his attitude we really get along well.

"i know"

what it's like to have a boyfriend with bipolar and mood swings. it's not easy but it takes patience and time, i have some sort of bipolar mania and bipolar depression and he's almost the same person i am. we fight and argue all the time but we love eachother. you just have to control the way you act toward eachother. it's not easy but it helps a lot to get through a day without fighting.
