| what to do!? Dear Dr. Douglas, I have been with my Husband for about three years now. We have a 1 year old son. We just got married this year june 2011. So we have only been married for less than a year. My husband has always showed signs is bipolar disorder. He always has many mood changes and really bad anger problems. He can go from 0 to 60 instantly. It's quite scary at times. He will fight out of no where just to pick a fight. Then just about 3 months ago he started getting worst. Then it became yelling and screams at me in the face and pushes me around in front of our baby boy. Always putting me down connately with bad language. He mentally abuses me, always talks about leaving me, he has tried many times to but he always comes back. I can go on and on about this. So about one month ago i talked him into seeing a doctor about maybe being bipolar. The doctor didn't really help to much he just put him on bipolar and depression medication. The doctor told him there is no real way to find out if he is bipolar or not. Which i believe is false cause, i have people in my family that are mentally ill and have to evaluated by a psychiatrist. So my husband has been taking the medication, and doesn't want to go get evaluated by a real psychiatrist. Then just about two days ago he has been skipping doses of the medication complaining nothing is wrong with him. Just after him not taking that medication he has been acting like a crazy person! What do i do!? Tomorrow he is sub-post to go back to that same doctor to see how he is doing on the medication. But, i feel that doctor doesn't know how to take care of this situation, after all he is just a regular doctor and not a psychiatrist. What should i do, i know he needs to be evaluated by a psychiatrist and get on the right medication for him, and the wrong kind. I need some advise it's hard trying to help my husband if he doesn't put in the effort too! I'm worried that our relationship and our family will be broken. I've gone through hell with him i'm trying so hard to hold on and help him cope with this disorder. Do you have any advice for me on what to do? I am so lost and helpless. |
