What do you do when you are angry? What is the most effective way of dealing with your anger?
Hi Abbey! So we meet again! I have recently walked several clients through the most remarkable book for anger...it has helped them emmensely...if you're a "book person" (I am an avid bibliophile, and often prescribe "bibliotherapy" for my clients)I'd be glad to give you the title and a link to the best place to purchase it. Sounds like we have a lot in common! YIKES and YAY! Regards, Paula
Hmmm, Well I just keep quite...say no words at all...coz i know my words would be hurting to other... Thats the best way how I cope with my anger...ha ha
Being angry was a very normal part of my life. Now I am hardly ever angry and if I am I have 30 seconds to disapate it, and I have empowering tools that assist me in doing so. I never new how abnormal it was to stay so angry, and how much I actually was! My children have also overcome there anger in the same way as I have. A mother of 7 I have been through it all. I know of what I speak! If you would like more details please feel free to contact me, as I would love to share. I have an amazing story and it has a very happy ending! I should say a happy beginning to a very unhappy end.
Within a man also there is either anger or there is preparation for anger – man does not know any state of non-anger. There is restlessness – either it surfaces or it prepares to surface. If we think that the moments of preparation within are moments of peace, we are mistaken.
I used to lose my temper and "see red" quite a lot. I didn't realise how much damage I was doing to myself until I learnt that anger is a negative emotion and only holds you back. Once armed with this knowledge I started working on myself. I would watch myself when I was angry and ask what was I getting from the anger and the answer was always nothing. Sometimes I would forget and go back to my old ways. However as time went on and the questioning became a habit, the moment I got angry and asked the question my anger would fade away then I would be able to deal with situation. Like I said it is not as easy as it sounds but it is well worth a try and see if it works for you
When I'm angry, I just go out and unwind or just eat and read while the music is on. After that, I feel fine.
Why do we get angry? Well, as with all emotions, anger is a momentary flare up of energy caused by ingrained ideas and opinions about something that our internal voice says was a violation of our rights or dignity. As others say, it is a normal part of our psychological make up and there is not one living being that has not felt anger at times. It was probably a main factor in making humans owners of the planet, because the energy it provides is very decisive and direct. In our modern world it can become a dangerous energy if it leads to what psychologists call "acting out". We must see the anger, know where it comes from and have the counter-energy (and patience) to look away and think about something else. It takes practice, but can be done.
